During the first, I was presented with an alphanumeric code: a letter followed without space by a two-digit whole number. I silently wondered how I could discern from this the associated location, which I intuitively knew to exist, and the answer was immediately conveyed by those beings who heard my thoughts: the horizon’s altitude was denoted by 0 or 1 (I cannot recall which), and horizontal bands of depth, constant in relative height, were marked by a steady increment of 1, deeper and deeper into the ground, until the number given was reached.

The following night I hovered above Earth, close enough to its surface to observe major coastal features and individual islands of moderate size. One of these islands, arbitrarily chosen, was used to demonstrate for me how the location of the island’s duplicate in another dimension could be determined based on several intersections between lines whose trajectories followed the curvature of the planet. It was made clear that every geologic feature has a duplicate, often located on the Earth’s surface within a couple thousand miles of itself. The lines of interest, while seeming to represent measurable physical phenomena, or at least to abide by simple mathematical descriptions, are imperceptible to the naked eye, as are, of course, the duplicates.
