If you had the option of compressing a future day into one hour would you do it? For example, consider it is Monday and you are looking forward to the weekend. If it were possible, would you opt to allow the rest of the week to go by in four hours? I don’t mean that you’d need to, in one hour, complete everything you would have had you not compressed the day, only that 24hrs would disappear in the span of one hour as you sat calmly or did anything you wished. How many days you’re willing to kill in one hour is an indicator of how much you hate your job.
Speaking of which, this Pogo gold mine internship deal is boring me. I’ve been here a week and following is not an exhaustive list of cons and pros:
-The ventilation in the mill is lacking and, I hear, nonexistent during the winter (permits required, which management isn’t motivated in applying for because they don’t breathe here).
-I’m convinced that I’ve already inhaled more than an average lifetime’s worth of toxic vapor. -The offices constantly shake because there are industrial vibrating tables just next door which use gravity to separate the smaller particles of ore from the larger ones.
-There is little to do here. I’ve looked at some autocad drawings and have driven around the site killing time with some of the electricians. they liken working here to being in jail.
-The food sucks.
-They have an excellent foosball table but no one plays it. hardly anyone does anything fun after work. Basically sleep, eat, pretend to work.
-The women are too few and too ugly.
-The vapor that I consider toxic because there are vats of bubbling combinations of sodium cyanide, lime, xanthate, metabisulfite, nitric acid, etc. curiously hasn’t given me headaches. If it did I’d be home now.
-The toilet seat can be left up without repercussion.
-My supervisor finally outlined something of a work objective for me.
-I’m making money.
-The dorm rooms aren’t shared, major pro.
