There’s this idea that engineers serve the public, and it’s kind of sick in some cases. For example, I was reading an article authored by some PhD junkie and it was about defining an architectural framework that supports multimedia service delivery. I don’t understand even half of the article and it’s peppered with abbreviations, but I get the gist. At some point they provide a bar graph with the footer “Figure 1. Service distribution on typical IT-based SDP.” And it’s got all the multimedia categories defined (e.g. news, music, message, finance, etc.). One of the categories is adult, which is defined as “adult only content and services.” It strikes me as almost comical that the brains who are working on this and other similar technical projects are indirectly connected to sorry motherfuckers who wanna watch some porn. I could never devote years of my life to developing technology that would be used by idiot bastards.
