So I went to the feared Natural Science building one last time, to pick up last semester’s final exam. It had been dropped off at the office by the Prof., so it was the administrative assistant/receptionist who pulled it out of a filing cabinet for me. In doing so she asked what relation I had to Adam, my uncle, who she knew because he got a B.S. in physics from UAF many years ago. She then asked if I was going into physics, too. I said “No, I’m in EE” and she says “Well, if you ever change your mind and want to find out how things work instead of memorizing equations…” I’ve picked up my share of rebukes but didn’t speak them for a couple reasons. First, I was a bit shocked that someone such as herself would be one to take a jab and second, I fear her capacity to influence my grades. Oh, the eternal battle of physicists/scientists/chemists vs. engineers still rages healthily.
