If I find myself not remembering what I had been thinking about, but aware that it was something important, I can usually get back to where I was by thinking about the “root” thought (i.e. the thought that led to another thought which led to another and another until reaching the one I had been thinking about before realizing that I had forgotten what it was). Somehow, the root thought is usually always readily available, and then it’s simply a matter of thinking about it for just a second before a chain reaction of connection thoughts brings me to the last thing I was thinking about. This chain reaction is quite exhilarating to feel, I can hardly move when it happens.
