I’ve never understood the logic behind this: “Eat everything on your plate. There are people in this world who are starving.” Yes, well, knowing they would finish my plate if they were here doesn’t make me want to finish it on their behalf. Wiping the plate clean won’t make them any less hungry. A phrase with slightly more sense would be “Take only as much as you’ll finish, there are people in this world who are starving.” In this case, if you’re extremely optimistic, you can feel confident that no food waste on your part = more foodstuffs available for non-profit organizations to deliver to the needy. I’m no authority on whether there exists a correlation. If there is an authority who claims they can say without doubt that there is or isn’t, that authority is probably biased.
