I have a subscription to The Guardian Weekly, a very fine publication from the U.K. I read each issue cover to cover but am terribly behind schedule. I’m currently reading week Aug 26 – Sept 1 2005. Furthermore, in a matter of days, I remember far less than half of what I’ve read. Still, I continue to read, both because the articles are very good and because I think it’s probably a healthy activity. And, optimistically speaking, I would hope that much of what I read only seems to be totally lost on me days later, when in fact it is just submerged behind the shadows of my mind, ready to jump out and be spoken as soon as I perceive something that reminds me of it.
